HYDERABAD: The State is likely to get early rain this year. The South-West monsoon on Friday advanced into the South-East Bay of Bengal close to Andaman Islands ten days ahead of its normal arrival at that location. Consequently, the monsoon may touch the peninsula at Thiruvananthapuram around May 20 instead of May 31 and set in the State early, a senior official at the State Met Office here said. At the same time, an upper air circulation developed near Andaman Islands. Meanwhile, heat wave conditions continued over parts of Coastal Andhra for the second day, as there was a let-up in the northern dry winds sweeping across the State. Vijayawada suffered excessive heat for the day with maximum temperature being recorded being 45 degree Celsius, the State's highest reading of the day. The temperature in several other coastal towns was above 40 degree C. Hyderabad recorded 42.1 degree C. The State Met Office extended the heat wave warning to Coastal Andhra by another two days. It said weather would be mainly dry on Saturday but some places in Coastal Andhra would receive thundershowers.
