HYDERABAD: Ten out of the 29 subjects listed for rural local bodies in line with the provisions of the 73rd 74th Constitution Amendment will be transferred to them soon in the State. Orders transferring these subjects will be issued as soon as they are approved by the Cabinet at its meeting slated for May 16. The subjects are: animal husbandry, fisheries, agriculture & extension, primary, secondary and adult education, women and child welfare, rural water supply, weaker section welfare with focus on Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, backward classes welfare, health, sanitation, primary health centres and family welfare, and poverty alleviation. Announcing this at a press conference here on Friday, Panchayat Raj Minister J. C. Diwakar Reddy said an "activity map" would be prepared specifying the powers and functions of the local bodies --gram panchayats, mandals parishads and zilla parishads, with respect to their responsibilities in tune with these 10 subjects. He said the Government would shortly nominate four members each to the recently constituted District Planning Boards.
