Haj committee refutes charges

Correspondent

CUTTACK: Members of the Orissa Haj Committee (OHC) have reacted strongly to the allegations levelled against them by an independent MLA Mohammad Ayub Khan.

The legislator from Kantabanji, who was a former member of the Haj Committee, alleged that members of the committee, in connivance with officials, swindled some Rs. 50 lakhs from Hajis of the State during the past six years. Deciding to submit a memorandum to the Governor seeking action against the legislator, the members threatened to file a defamation suit against him. Addressing newsmen here on Thursday, chairman of OHC Qari Mohammed Mustafa said that Mr. Khan had made baseless, false and fabricated allegations with an ulterior motive.
