Restaurant workers clash with DMK men

Staff Reporter

Party worker injured, hospitalised

CHENNAI: An altercation between DMK partymen and restaurant workers in Adyar snowballed into a clash late on Thursday night.

Police said the trouble erupted shortly after the partymen began erecting party flags along the median as part of the golden jubilee celebrations being held in the city on Friday. An argument between them and the hotel workers escalated into a scuffle at 11.30 p.m. In the incident, a DMK worker Durairaj was injured and admitted to a private hospital, while two others were treated as outpatients in a nearby hospital.

About an hour after the incident, an armed gang forcibly barged into the restaurant and ransacked the furniture before fleeing. Adyar police arrested about 10 people from both groups.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Adyar) Hari said that cases of rioting armed with deadly weapons among others were registered. Further investigation is on, police added.
