CHENNAI: A meeting of the leaders of various journalists' organisations held here on Friday decided to submit a memorandum to the Director General of Police, pressing a three-point charter of demands on action to be initiated by the police in connection with the attacks on the offices of the Dinakaran newspaper on Wednesday. The memorandum will be submitted at the end of a rally to be taken out on Saturday. Representatives of the Tamil Nadu Union of Journalists, Madras Reporters' Guild, Madras Union of Journalists, National Union of Journalists and the Tamil Nadu Press Photographers Association attended the meeting. The journalists' organisations will call for transfer of police personnel from Madurai and a few other districts to create an atmosphere for a free and fair investigation into the incidents. They will seek immediate seizure of vital evidence like weapons and cell phones of the perpetrators and arrest of the conspirators involved in the attacks and ensure that the points and names mentioned by Mr. Muthupandian, Dinakaran's Madurai news editor, in his complaint are incorporated in the FIR filed at the Othakadai police station in Madurai. The journalists' organisations will take out a rally to press for these demands from the Dinakaran office, Kutchery Road, Luz, Mylapore, to the DGP's office at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
