THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Municipal offices in the district will be buzzing with activity this second Saturday. Employees affiliated to the Kerala Municipal and Corporation Staff Union (KMCSU) have volunteered to give up their holiday and turn up for duty on May 12 in response to a call by the union. The union had given the call as part of a campaign organised in connection with its 40th State conference. According to State general secretary of the Union K.Jayadevan efficient municipal service is one of the priority issues to be discussed at the conference. He said the increase in the number of municipal wards was not matched by a revision of the staff pattern. This, he said, had burdened municipal employees with additional responsibilities. The State conference will witness the launch of a drive to enhance the quality of service provided by the employees. Union workers will turn up for duty on holidays and conduct adalats to clear the backlog of work. Mayor C. Jayan Babu has hailed the KMCSU call to employees to work on May 12.
