Aviation sector recording 25 to 30 per cent growth every year in India

KOCHI : The country will need 6,000 pilots and 60,000 aircraft maintenance engineers in the next 10 years, according to C.G. Krishnadas Nair, former Chairman of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL).

He said the nation was witnessing an aviation boom. "The sector is recording 25 to 30 per cent growth every year. Demand for professionals in the sector will go up in the coming years," he said.

Dr. Nair was here to attend a meeting of the Board of Studies in Aerospace Technology on the Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) campus on Friday. The meeting finalised the curriculum for the two new B.Tech. programmes in aerospace technology offered by the Cusat from this academic year. Elaborating on the exciting opportunities available in aviation sector, Dr. Nair said that several multinational companies in the aviation sector were planning to open shops in India.

"With the arrival of these companies, graduates in aerospace engineering will be in much demand. The salary offered by these companies will match the perks offered by the Indian IT sector," he said.
