National Technology Day

Kochi: National Technology Day was observed at the Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory of the Defence Research Organisation on Friday. The day was celebrated to mark the 9th anniversary of the Pokhran nuclear test carried out by India. V.P. Felix, senior scientist of the Laboratory, made a technology day oration on `Advances in acoustics-impact of sonar technology.' S. Ananthanarayanan, director of the laboratory, presented Mr. Felix the technology day medal and commendation. — Staff Reporter

Non-space fuel pump

Kochi: Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) will open a non-space fuel pump at the petrol pump at Manorama junction. The consumer can watch the quantity of the fuel filled in his vehicle and the cost of the fuel from any part of the pump in the new system. This would be the first non-space pump in Kochi, said a communication issued by Soman Mathews, chief divisional retail sales manager of the Corporation. — Staff Reporter

UDF plans series of protests

Kochi: The United Democratic Front (UDF) will organise a series of agitations against the Left Democratic Front (LDF) Government in the district. The UDF will stage a dharna in front of taluk hospitals on May 14 demanding the resignation of Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy. Dharnas and protest meetings will also be organised in front of primary health centres on May 24. Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy will attend a meeting in the district on that day. The front district unit demanded the withdrawal of the traffic regulations introduced in the city. UDF district convener V.J. Poulose and K. Babu, MLA, were among those who attended. — Staff Reporter
