Software engineer hangs herself

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Vijayalakshmi (26), a software engineer with Infosys, hanged herself at her house in Fraser Town police station limits on Thursday night.

Vijayalakshmi and her sister Indira, also a software engineer, had moved to Bangalore from Chennai six months ago. They were living in a rented house on Ahmed Sait Road in Fraser Town.

Around 8 p.m. Indira, who had been to work, telephoned her sister who was alone at home. When she did not respond, Indira informed Vijayalakshmi's friend Ravi, also an engineer. Later, they both came home only to find that Vijayalakshmi had bolted herself in. They broke open the door and found her body hanging from a ceiling fan. Vijayalakshmi was on night shift on Thursday, the police said.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Fraser Town) K.V. Puttathimme Gowda told The Hindu that Vijayalakshmi was dejected after a marriage alliance did not materialise.
