BANGALORE: A Defence employee, who was not wearing a helmet, was killed when a car trying to jump the Mayo Hall signal on Mahatma Gandhi Road rammed his scooter from behind on Friday. The police gave the name of the victim as T. Ramappa (59), a resident of Yemnur village near K.R. Puram. He was a civilian employee at a Defence establishment on Cubbon Road and was to retire from service shortly. He was on his way to his workplace when the accident occurred.
Around 8.45 a.m. Mr. Ramappa slowed down his scooter at a traffic signal near Mayo Hall when the car, hired by a call centre, tried to jump the signal and ended up knocking down Mr. Ramappa. Following the collision, Mr. Ramappa was tossed from the scooter and his head hit the median. He suffered serious head injuries and died on the way to hospital.
Child killed
Four-year-old Sanjay was killed on the spot when he was run over by a lorry near Kasavanahalli on Sarjapur Road around 9.45 a.m. on Friday.
Sanjay was the son of Joseph of Chitradurga, the police said. The Adugodi traffic police have registered a case.
