THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Thiruvananthapuram North mandalam committee of the Indian Communist Party has blamed the poor enforcement of traffic rules for the death of two women in separate road accidents in the city on Saturday. A press note quoting party secretary Peroorkada Sreekumar and assistant secretary P.S. Naidu here on Saturday said chaotic traffic conditions in the capital had made life miserable for citizens. Signal lights were not functioning at many busy junctions in various parts of the city, the press note said.
Few policemen
The number of traffic police deployed on duty was far too inadequate. The policemen turn a blind eye to blatant violations of road rules, mostly by private bus drivers. The press note said the two accidents at Statue and East Fort revealed the need for strict enforcement of traffic rules. It called on the authorities for urgent steps to streamline traffic flow and minimise the number of accidents.
