VILLUPURAM: The desire to keep all the monetary benefits to herself has made Santhi (30), second wife of Elumalai (42) who died in the recent Sendur blast, to enact a drama. Her pretension has come to light when she preferred a complaint to the District Administration alleging that Elumalai's elder brother Govindaraj had taken away the cheque for Rs. 1 lakh given as compensation by the Government. Tindivanam tahsildar Udayakumar was asked to enquire into the case. Official sources said Elumalai had got two sons Babu (20) and Karthik (16) from his first marriage and begot a daughter Revathi (11) from his second marriage. When political parties and other organisations gave monetary assistance to the victims' families, Santhi at the instigation of certain persons wanted to retain all the benefits to herself. She was also anticipating more money to come by after the official investigation was over. The quizzing by the tashildar revealed that she was lying about the cheque which she had in her possession all along. On fear of persecution, she surrendered the cheque to the official who had made arrangements for sharing the amount equally among all the heirs of Elumalai and deposit the money in their names.
