I will abide by Chief Minister's decision, says Darshanapur

Special Correspondent

To discuss Lokayukta report with Kumaraswamy on Monday

GULBARGA: Minister for Agriculture Marketing Sharanabasappa Darshanapur on Saturday said he would abide by the decision of Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on the report filed by Lokayukta Santosh Hegde asking the Chief Minister to drop Mr. Darshanapur and Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Alkod Hanumanthappa from the Ministry for not filing the details of their assets and liabilities before the deadline.

Mr. Darshanapur told The Hindu that he would meet Mr. Kumaraswamy on May 14 and explain the legal issues involved in the matter and the reasons for the delay in filing the details of assets and liabilities.

He said the Government would discuss the report with the legal experts and, if need be, file a petition before the Karnataka High Court challenging the Lokayukta's action.

Resignation sought

Meanwhile, former Labour Minister and senior Janata Dal (Secular) leader S.K. Kanta who had filed a complaint against the two Ministers before the Lokayukta, said the two Ministers indicted by the Lokayukta should resign from the Ministry on moral grounds.

Sources said that according to the Lokayukta Act, Ministers and legislators should declare their assets and liabilities before the Lokayukta before June 30 every year. The Act provides for two more months as grace period for those who do not file the details before the Lok Ayukta before August 31.

While Mr. Darshanapur filed his details of the assets and liabilities on September 1, Mr Hanumanthappa filed his returns on September 2.
