CELEBRATION TIME: Bahujan Samaj Party workers taking out a victory procession in Gulbarga on Saturday.
GULBARGA: It was celebration time for Dalits and Bahujan Samaj Party workers in Gulbarga district following the victory of the BSP in Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. The BSP workers and Dalits took out processions and distributed sweets to commemorate the victory of the party in Gulbarga and other parts of the district. In Gulbarga, BSP workers led by its district unit president Suryakant Nimbalkar took out a procession from Sardar Vallabhai Patel Chowk to the Jagat Circle. They raised slogans praising BSP supremo Mayawati and her political acumen for leading the party to victory in Uttar Pradesh against all odds. The Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (Sagar) congratulated Ms. Mayawati for leading the party to spectacular victory. Addressing presspersons, State convener of the DSS D.G. Sagar said the entire credit for the victory should go to Ms. Mayawati. Mr. Sagar said that the people of Uttar Pradesh had taught a lesson to the "communal" forces showing them the door. The election results should also be a lesson to all the forces which believe in communal politics, he said. He said that the Congress should take steps in the State to forge an alliance of all the secular forces, including the BSP, to defeat communal forces. There was also need for the BSP in the State to refurbish its image by infusing new blood in the party and senior leaders in the Dalit movement should be involved in the growth of the party, he said.
