AGORC (Chennai) storms into final

Madurai: AGORC (Chennai) stormed into the final of the 10th annual Kothaiammal memorial Trophy State-level hockey tournament, organised by Ever Great Hockey Club, with a 3-1 victory over Halls Hockey Club (Chennai) at the Thai Matriculation HSS ground, Vadipatti, near here on Saturday.

AGORC scored all the three goals within 23 minutes. But in the second, Halls Club put up a stiff fight and reduced the margin in the 47th minute.

AGORC will meet Tamil Nadu Police (Chennai), which prevailed over Reserve Line Sports Club (Madurai) 6-5 in a tie-breaker, after the teams were level 1-1 at the regulation time, in the final.

Semifinals: AGORC, Chennai 3 (Moses, Sudalaimuthu, Gopi Sr.) bt Halls HC, Chennai 1 (Dinesh); Tamil Nadu Police 1 (Manikandan) vs. Reserve Lince Sports Club 1 (Kathiravan), Tie-breaker: Tamil Nadu Police 5 (Sivanesan, Muthupandi, Parthiban, Palanivel, Saravanan) Reserve Line Sports Club 4 (Dinesh, Venkatesh, Sathish Kumar, Radakrishnan) 6-5.

Quarterfinals:

Tamil Nadu Police 3 (Krishnakumar, Manoharan, Palani) bt Thirunagar HC 1 (Sathya); AGORC, Chennai 3 (Sudalaimuthu 2, Dinesh) bt GK Motors Finance HC, Madurai 2 (Vaman, Stalin); Reserve Line Sports Club 1 (Radhakrishnan) bt Food Corporation of India, Chennai 0; Halls HC, Chennai 2 (Dinesh 2) bt Ever Great HC 1 (Ramasamy).

Chennai Soccer Club gets walkover

At Kayalpatnam, the match between Chennai Soccer Club and Coastal Football Club (Thiruvananthapuram) in the 42nd Maulana Abulkalam Azad memorial Trophy all-India football tournament did not come off on Saturday, as the latter did not turn up.

Chennai Soccer Club got a walk over and will meet Indian Navy (Bombay) on Sunday.

St. Peter's CC posts win

At Dindigul, K. Vinodhkumar's unbeaten 92 and T. Mahendrakumar's 71 helped St. Peter's Cricket Club (Kodaikanal) carve out a 99-run victory over Vignesh Sports Club in the Dindigul District Cricket Association first division league on Saturday.

The scores:

St. Peter's CC 307 for seven in 40 overs (N. Venkataraman 41, K. Vinodhkumar 92 not out, T. Mahendrakumar 71) bt Vignesh Sports Club 208 in 27.3 overs (S. Manikandan 40, K. Chellapandi 76, B. Gopi four for 54).

Cricket camp

The Dindigul District Cricket Association will conduct a three-week summer cricket coaching camp for boys' below 19 years at GTN Arts College ground from May 16.

N. Venkataraman and T. Mahendra Kumar will be the coaches.
