SAN JOSE (Costa Rica): The man who allegedly took several persons hostage in the Russian embassy in San Jose turned himself in to the police on Friday afternoon, ending the hostage incident peacefully. Police surrounded the embassy upon hearing that the man, identified as Roman Votayanski, had seized nine hostages inside, including the Russian Ambassador. After intense negotiations with the police, Votayanski walked out of the embassy handcuffed and with his face covered with a yellow raincoat. He was then driven to the Second Judicial Circuit, north of SanJose. The crisis resulted from an argument over money between two young Russians, said Valery Nikolaenko, Russia's Ambassador in Costa Rica. The two people were locked in a room inside the complex. Before the crisis ended, Ambassador Nikolaenko talked via telephone with local channel 7 and said he was completely safe Xinhua
