CHENNAI: The results of the Plus Two examination held in March will be released on Monday morning, a release here said. Students can approach their respective schools for the results and can also access the websites and telephone numbers that will be announced later. — Special Correspondent

TNCC plea on missing fishermen

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president M. Krishnasswamy has appealed to the State Government to take immediate steps to trace six fishermen, belonging to Nagapattinam district, who had been missing since May 8. In a statement on Saturday, he said the fishermen who went for fishing in a fibreglass boat had not returned till date. The Government not only should take steps to trace them but also provide necessary assistance to the families of the fishermen till their return, it said. — Special Correspondent

DMK meet today

CHENNAI: The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's administrative committee will meet at the party headquarters here at 5 p.m. on Sunday. DMK general secretary K. Anbazhagan said the meeting would be chaired by party president M. Karunanidhi. All the members of the committee should attend the meeting without fail, he said. The meeting comes in the context of the recent developments, particularly the violence in Madurai. — Special Correspondent

One killed in cracker unit fire

SIVAKASI: One person died and four were injured when fire broke out in a cracker unit at Nagapalayam near here on Saturday. The victim was identified as V. Rajkumar (38). The police said friction while mixing explosives led to the fire, in which, G. Lakshmi (38), G. Shanmugathai (38), V. Anandhi (53) and K. Selvakumar (34) were injured. The condition of Selvakumar is said to be critical. — Staff Reporter

Four killed in accident

TUTICORIN: Four persons died and 10 were injured when the Tata Sumo in which they were travelling collided with a State-owned transport bus at Vembur near here on Friday night. The accident occurred when the Tata Sumo occupants were going to attend Veerapandiya Kattabomman festival at Panchalankurichi near here, rammed the bus which was going to Tirupur from Tiruchendur. The victims were identified as S. Tirupathi (21), K. Kannan (27), G. Sundar (35) and V. Gandhiraj (10). The injured were admitted to a hospital in Madurai. The Masarpatti police arrested the bus driver. — Staff Reporter

TNAU undergraduate admission schedule

COIMBATORE: The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University will issue application forms for admission to undergraduate courses for the year 2007-08 from May 16. The last date of issue would be June 15. The rank list of successful candidates would be released on June 20, says a release from the Dean (Agriculture). Counselling for special reservations would he held on June 21, while general counselling session for Phase I would be held on June 23 and 28 and for Phase II on July 7. Counselling for those who fall under the category of children of farmers' quota would also be held on July 7. Vocational stream counselling would be held on July 1. — Staff Reporter

Minister to talk to fishermen's kin

NAGAPATTINAM: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi has deputed K.P.P. Sami, Minister for Fisheries, to Tirumullaivasal in Nagapattinam district to talk to families of six fishermen (five from Tirumullaivasal and one from Akkaraipettai ) who were reportedly missing after venturing into the sea on a fiberglass boat from Tirumullaivasal on May 8.

Collector Tenkasi S. Jawahar said on Saturday that Coast Guard was still engaged in tracing the six fishermen.

Grievance day

NAGAPATTINAM: Nagapattinam Collector Tenkasi S. Jawahar has convened a meeting at 10.30 a.m. on May 16 at the Collectorate hall here to hear grievances of ex-servicemen, particularly relating to their pension and other issues.

Three held

NAGAPATTINAM: Three persons, including a woman, were arrested by the Porayar police in the district on Thursday on charges of blackmailing, Kumaran,a pharmacist of Porayar and extracting money from him.

Investigations revealed that the three had earlier cheated several persons in Sembanarkovil and other places.

Mettur level

TIRUCHI: The level in the Mettur dam stood at 75.50 feet against its full level of 120 feet on Saturday.

The inflow was 1,539 cusecs and the discharge, 1,500 cusecs. - Staff Reporter

Villagers block road

ERODE: Residents of Muthampalayam area blocked the road on Saturday demanding shifting of municipal compost yard. Surampatty Grade Three Municipality's compost yard is situated at Muthampalayam area, where more than 100 families are living.

Municipality dump the garbage here and burn the waste including the plastics. On Friday garbage including some plastic materials were burnt at the dump yard and the residents opposed it. On Saturday noon, about 200 residents squatted on the road at Erode-Chennimalai area demanding the administration to shift the yard. The officials rushed to spot and assured the crowd to take steps to solve the issue.

Extra kerosene

ERODE: Collector T. Udhaychandran said on Saturday that the Government has sanctioned one more litre of kerosene to ration card holders. Card holders could collect extra kerosene along with usual quota.

Body of woman found

Nagercoil: The police have recovered the body of a woman from a tank on Saturday.

According to the police, Kala (27) of Puthukadai took this extreme step when her husband demanded more dowries from her.

A case have been registered and investigation is on.

Protest planned

Nagercoil: The activists of various political parties will take out of a procession from old bus stand via Mettukadadai to new bus stand on Sunday to protest against Election Commission's decision to abolish the prestigious Padmanabhapuram Assembly segment.
