Call to protect public sector undertakings

KOLLAM: The State Public Sector and Autonomous Bodies Officers Federation will observe this year as the year for the protection of pubic sector undertakings. Addressing a press conference here on Friday, district president of the federation T.Harilal and secretary H. Reghudas said a public meeting to create awareness of the need to protect public sector undertakings would be held at Press Club Maidan here on Sunday.

Mayor N. Padmalochanan will preside over the meeting. Minister for Food and Civil Supplies C. Divakaran will inaugurate the meet. District panchayat president K. Devaki will administer the oath for the protection of public sector undertakings. A.A. Aziz, Eravipuiram MLA, will deliver the keynote address.

Mr. Harilal said the federation, in order to create awareness, has coined the slogan `Not to sell but to revive.' He said after the LDF came to power, several steps had been taken to protect PSUs. However, the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre had embarked upon a privatisation spree, he said.
