Bhubaneswar: The police on Saturday registered a criminal case against anti-POSCO protesters for holding three officials of the South Korean company hostage at Gobindapur, near Paradip, for nearly 10 hours on Friday. A complaint was filed by the driver of the vehicle in which the officials went to the village near the Dhinkia gram panchayat, said Jagatsinghpur District Superintendent of Police Y.K. Jethwa. According to the complaint made by the driver Amjad Khan at the Kujang station, the incident occurred when he went to Gobindapur with three officials Rosalyn Parida, Debasish Swain and Pranabananda Das. "The irate villagers damaged the car and forcibly took the officials into captivity," Mr. Khan said, adding some of the agitators snatched away his wallet and belongings. The agitators later released all the officials after taking undertakings from two of them. Mr. Swain and Mr. Das, who were released after Parida, said they were treated well in captivity. "Action would be taken against the protesters as per law," Mr. Jethwa said. Officials of the Kujang police station were asked to initiate preliminary investigation into the complaint.
