Chhattisgarh in final

NAWANSHAHR: Chhattisgarh made the final in both the boys and girls' sections in the 34th National sub-junior basketball championship at the Kirpal Sagar Academy, Rahon, on Saturday.

Chhattisgarh, the defending champion in the boys' section, edged past Rajasthan 56-49, while the girls' team humbled Maharashtra 73-28 in the semifinals.

Host Punjab outplayed Madhya Pradesh 61-8 to make the final in the boys' event. Uttar Pradesh will challenge Chhattisgarh in the girls' final after getting past Haryana rather comfortably.

The results (semifinals): Boys: Chhattisgarh 56 (Shyam Sundar 21) bt Rajasthan 49; Punjab 61 (Gauravdeep Singh 19) bt Madhya Pradesh 8.

Girls: Chhattisgarh 73 (Kavita 14) bt Maharashtra 28; Uttar Pradesh 63 (Bhavna 12) bt Haryana 14. — Special Correspondent
