HUBLI: Members of Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike and Samudaya Souharda Vedike staged a dharna here on Saturday in support of their demands. The members alleged that Ramachandrapur Math had encroached upon 500 acres of land on the pretext of organising the "Go Sammelan"
Sammelan
They alleged that the math had not only encroached upon the forest land, but also damaged the forest cover in the name organising the "sammelan". They demanded that the Government book a criminal case against the math for the "crime". They urged the Government to conduct an inquiry into the manner which funds were raised for the convention. They alleged that efforts were being made to evict a few Dalit families living near the math and urged the Government to act immediately. Members Devananda Jagapur, Pitambrappa Bilar, Babajan Mudhol, Krishna Jakkappanavar and others urged the Government to take back the land allotted to ISKCON for its "Akshara Dasoha" project.
Donations
They alleged that ISKCON was collecting donations claiming that it alone was providing midday meals to children, though the Government paid Rs. 3.20 for each meal. Members of various other Dalit organisations in the district also took part in the agitation.
