Staff Correspondent
Belgaum: The High Power Committee headed by Chief Minister H.D. Kumarswamy will be announcing the schedule for the proposed Vishwa Kannada Sammelana next month. According to official sources here on Saturday, the committee would be meeting in Bangalore in June to finalise the dates for holding the World Kannada Meet in Belgaum.
Postponed
The Government had initially announced to hold the meeting for three days in Belgaum in February. But the programme was postponed in the wake of final verdict on Cauvery water disputes, which allegedly went against the interest of the State. The Government had sanctioned Rs. 10 crore to take up improvement of civic facilities such as roads and pavements, besides beautification of the host city. Later, it was announced that the meet would be held in September last week. Sources said the work on printing of books to be published during the meet had been completed. The list of speakers and other prominent invitees would be finalised once the dates for the meet were finalised. A majority of development work taken up as part of the sammelan was nearing completion.
