KOCHI : The Kerala Private Medical College Managements Association on Saturday announced fee concession for students belonging to the economically weaker sections of society in 25 per cent of the seats. The annual tuition fee for the students will be Rs.10,000. Association chairman George Paul said that 20 per cent seats would be reserved for OBC students. Four per cent would be reserved for Scheduled Castes students while the remaining one per cent is for Scheduled Tribes students. He said that 50 per cent seats in minority-run private medical colleges would be reserved for students from their community. The association said that it would go ahead with the admission process for the academic year based on the recent Supreme Court verdict allowing them to admit students in 100 per cent seats available in each college. Candidates can apply for the entrance test conducted by the association till May 31. Only those students who have scored 60 per cent marks in Plus Two will be allowed to appear for the test. There would be no interview this year. Mr. Paul said that V.J. Pappu, former pro-Vice-Chancellor of Calicut University, has been appointed as the Controller for the entrance test to be conducted by the association. The test was likely to be held in mid-June. The association decided to approach the High Court, challenging the fee structure proposed by the P.A. Mohammed Committee. Mr.Paul said the fee structure announced by the committee was unviable. The association said that it was ready for talks with the Government to end the impasse.
