Workshop on `media and communalism'

MANGALORE: Komu Souharda Vedike will hold a two-day media workshop on "Media and communalism" with some of the country's top media and literary personalities as resourcepersons. They include award-winning author Arundhati Roy, columnist Saeed Naqvi and journalist N. Bhanutej. It will begin on May 18 and conclude with a national seminar on the theme of the workshop.

According to a press release issued by organising secretary Mohammad Kakkinje, the workshop will focus on the need for the media to promote communal harmony through sustained efforts and help create an inclusive society.

The workshop will have theme papers presented by experts. The Editor of the Bangalore Edition of Udayavani will deliver the inaugural speech, R. Poornima. It will followed by observations by the Editor of Tejus daily, P.O. Koya of Kozhikode and the Chairman of Mangalore University's Chair on Christianity, John Fernandes. Journalist Sanath Kumar Belagali will chair the session.

The workshop has been divided into four `goshtis' with separate sub-themes.

On May 19, retired judge Rajinder Singh Sachar and Ms. Roy will participate in the national seminar along with the Editor of Lankesh, Gauri Lankesh, writer Sara Aboobacker, general secretary of Komu Souharda Vedike K.L. Ashok and teacher and social worker Rita Noronha.
