KOCHI: The gulf between the rich and the poor was widening as a result of the wrong policies of the Government, said P.G.R.Sindhya, All India secretary-general, Janata Dal (S). He was inaugurating the State annual convention of Kerala NGO Centre here on Saturday. He expressed anguish at the hire and fire policy being pursued by organisations as part of the liberalisation and privatisation policies. Several State Governments were thinking of downsizing of staff and abolition of pension benefits to the employees. The Special Economic Zones would create zones of unhealthy labour policies, he said. About six crore families depend on retail business and their life will be affected if big private players enter the scene. "In India, we do not need billionaires. There is more corruption in private sector than in the public sector," he said. He also flayed the practice of making use of the police establishment and other official machinery to collect funds.
