JAIPUR: The second phase of Jal Chetana Yatra-Kisan Mahotsava will begin in Rajasthan on May 30 to generate public awareness about optimum utilisation of irrigation and drinking water among farmers, women and rural population. The programme will be interactive in its approach to produce better results. Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, reviewing the preparations for the long march here over the weekend, said targets would be set for works such as construction of water harvesting structures, distribution of seeds, and sowing in the monsoon to extend benefits of the drive to the people at large. An estimated Rs. 17.5 crore will be spent on undertaking the yatra. Ms. Raje said 1-lakh soil health cards would be distributed to farmers and an equal number of soil samples tested during the drive, in addition to the distribution of seed minikits and vegetable seed kits, immunisation of cattle and disbursement of cooperative crop loans. Troupes of performing artistes will accompany the officials in the march to publicise modern techniques for water conservation and agriculture. For the first time, the State Revenue Department will be associated with the drive to resolve the revenue-related difficulties of villagers.
Across 20,000 villages
Ms. Raje pointed out that about 20,000 villages across the State would be covered by the long march, with the priority to be accorded to the villages left out in the Kisan Mahotsava's first phase last year. The State Government proposes to form clusters of villages to ensure success of the campaign.
