Woman injured in bomb attack

Staff Reporter

NALGONDA: A woman sustained injuries when a crude bomb exploded in her house in Shantinagar of Miryalaguda in the early hours of Saturday.

V. Poornima (27), a tailor, told police that an unknown person had hurled the bomb through the window while she was asleep. "The bomb exploded when I tried to throw it outside," she told police.

Miryalaguda DSP B. Narsimhulu said that the crude bomb, normally used by fishermen, had exploded in her right hand resulting in severe injuries.

Police rushed her to a hospital in Hyderabad on the advice of doctors in the local hospital, he said.

The DSP further said that she had received threatening calls from the family of a local councillor Dontara Govardhan, with whom she had been maintaining an intimate relation. "We have launched investigation from this angle too," the DSP said.

Poornima has been staying in Shantinagar along with her two sons after her husband committed suicide.
