HYDERABAD: The Singapore Government has agreed to import eggs, fish, fruits, vegetables and other food items from Andhra Pradesh. The decision follows a discussion between Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Singapore Government's agri food veterinary authority CEO Chuasin Bin on Saturday. Dr. Reddy suggested to the Singaporean authorities that they could enter into buy-back agreement with farmers in the State not only for supply of commodities but also for production that suits their needs.
State's distinction
The State ranked first in the production of mangoes, oil palm, chillies and turmeric that were being exported to countries across the globe. The Singapore officials had evinced keen interest in importing other items too on mutually beneficial lines.
On Science City
Dr. Reddy later participated in a meeting with Landspring Corporation CEO Bob Sharples and others about the proposed Science City in Anantapur district and wanted them to commence works on the project at the earliest. The Government was prepared to extend support to the project, he said asking the promoters to purchase land directly from farmers instead of depending on the middlemen.
No teachers, purohits
Meanwhile, office-bearers of the Malaysian Telugu Sangham called on the Chief Minister and invited him to the fifth Global Indian Shopping Festival - 2007, the largest Indian shopping festival in Asia Pacific region to be held at Kuala Lumpur from June 3. They told Dr. Reddy that there was shortage of Telugu teachers as well as purohits to perform traditional rituals like marriages. Dr. Reddy assured that the Government would send the required number of teachers to Malaysia.
