KURNOOL: M.A. Ismail Baig was named city president of the Telugu Desam Party at a meeting here on Saturday.

Party observer Alla Bakash organised the process.

Party district president Byreddy Rajasekhar Reddy and others were present.

Unruly scenes were witnessed at the meeting when the announcement was made. A section of party leaders led by K.E. Kumar and Parvez lodged their protest saying that long-standing leaders were ignored.

The observer tried to convince the protesting leaders saying that the party decided to nominate a person from the minority community.

At this stage, the observer and the leaders said they were prepared to take the opinion ward-wise before finalising the candidature.

Byreddy Rajasekhar Reddy raised serious objection over a small group of leaders trying to scuttle the process.
