`Withdraw SEZ draft declaration'

TIRUPATI: State convener of the Socialist Front of Andhra Pradesh, M. Papi Reddy, has asked the Government to immediately withdraw the draft notification issued for the second phase of acquisition of land for the Special Economic Zone coming up at Sathyavedu in Chittoor district.

In a statement, he said since all landowners are small farmers eking out their livelihood by depending on agriculture, `forcible' acquisition of their lands will land them in trouble.

He also cited in this connection the sad plight of the farmers who were already frittering away the compensation they had received for their lands under the first phase of acquisition and feared that it was going to result in a grave socio-agrarian problem.
