BERHAMPUR: Entrance tests for admission into diploma courses in polytechnic institutions in the State would be held on Sunday. The Uma Charan Patnaik (UCP) Engineering School of the city is coordinating the entrance test this year which is conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education and Training. According to principal of the institution L.K.Mohapatra, students' interest for technical diploma courses has increased many folds this year. Last year there were around 23,000 applicants for the entrance tests. But this year their number has gone up to 36,688. The silver lining is that more and more female candidates are getting interested in technical education as their number has increased by around 35 per cent in comparison to last year. Students are interested in opting for technical courses after secondary school rather than opting for general education which is the reason behind the increase in number of candidates, said teachers of UCP Engineering School. Mr Mohapatra said the entrance tests would be conducted at 97 centers of the state. Question papers shave already been sent to various centres of the State. The applicants who have not received their admit cards an get their duplicate admit cards from their respective test centres.
