KADAPA: An action plan has been prepared to take up naptha-based and HSD power units to tide over power supply problems during next summer, Minister for Energy and Coal Mohd. Shabbir Ali said on Saturday. Discoms had been instructed to ensure 24-hour single-phase supply in view of the scorching heat, he told a press conference here. Round-the-clock single-phase supply was restored in northern discom and APSPDCL, Visakhapatnam, where the demand for agriculture and industries had dropped. Power was being supplied for seven hours in the southern discom although power demand remained constant due to horticultural plantations in Kadapa district, he said. Discoms had been authorised to take up load shedding on the basis of demand. Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had directed seven-hour supply in kharif and rabi seasons without disruption in supply for industries, agriculture and domestic consumers, he said. A sum of Rs. 1,250 crores was spent on purchasing power from other States for maintaining supply in rabi season last year, he said and sought Rs. 2,000 crores this year.
Pat for Collector
The Minister complimented Collector M.T. Krishna Babu and officials for their efforts to ensure that Kadapa bagged first position in Indiramma housing programme, from eighth place earlier. Water schemes under Ambedkar Jeeva Dhara, RWS and GOI funds would be taken up, he said. Mr. Shabbir Ali directed CMD of APSPDCL Gopal Reddy and Transco SE Durga Prasad to instruct DEs and AEs not to disconnect power supply for drinking water schemes just because RWS Department owed payment of dues. Participating in Praja Patham programme at Kalakshetram, the Minister disbursed assets to the tune of Rs. 16.73 crores to 17,158 beneficiaries.
