VIJAYAWADA: Top priority will be given to supplying power to agricultural connections and power will be supplied for seven hours a day in two spells even if it means that power should be cut to the other sectors, Minister for Panchayat Raj J.C.Diwakara Reddy has said.

Addressing a gathering of women self-help group (SHG) members at a Praja patham asset distribution programme here on Saturday he said the erstwhile TDP Government which was making farmers pay for power could supply power only for seven hours, but the Congress Government was supplying power for the same duration without collecting a single paisa.

He said there would be no work for the Left parties in the State in the next couple of years because there would be nobody without a house or land. The "main weapon" of the Left parties was the demand for house sites, housing and land and there would be nobody without them, he said.

He said the `pavalavaddi' scheme of the Andhra Pradesh Government was one of a kind in South East Asia.

Minister for Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Mandali Buddha Prasad said Indira Gandhi introduced land reforms in the country and the poor in Andhra Pradesh also benefited from it. But then the Telugu Desam Party came to power and the words `land reforms' were forgotten totally. Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy brought back these two words back into vogue.

Collector Navin Mittal said assets valued at Rs. 9 crores were distributed to beneficiaries at the function and assets valued at Rs. 10 crores were distributed during Praja patham. Krishna district was in the first place in the construction of classroom for children of Indiramma village. The district was also in the first place in the giving of new power connections to families in Indiramma villages, he said.

Guntur: The concluding function of the Praja Patham was held at KKR Plaza here. Speaking on the occasion Minister for Civil Supplies Kasu Venkata Krishna Reddy said Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy Government was committed to welfare of the downtrodden and Dalits.

Teachers' Constituency MLC K.S. Lakshmana Rao, however, found the statistics provided by the DRDA as not reflecting the ground reality. District Collector G. Jayalakshmi, MLAs Sheik Subhani and Gade Venkata Reddy and MLC T. Krishna Reddy attended.
