Government will buy 1,000 more Volvo buses: Cheluvaraya Swamy

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Transport Minister N. Cheluvaraya Swamy said here on Saturday that the Government would buy 1,000 more Volvo buses.

He told presspersons that in the first phase 200 buses would be purchased. Bangalore being a hi-tech city the demand for Volvo services was increasing, particularly after the fares were reduced. There was no proposal to stop buy of Volvo buses nor did the Government intend to phase them out as was being made out in some circles, he said.

The proposal to buy1,000 buses awaited the Government's approval.

To a question, Mr. Cheluvaraya Swamy said there was no proposal to reduce the bus fares though the diesel price had come down. The Government would maintain the present fares even if diesel prices rose, he said.
