SAT Hospital: operation theatre to be fumigated

Thiruvananthapuram: Fumigation activities to disinfect the emergency operation theatre at Sree Avittom Tirunal (SAT) Hospital are scheduled to commence on Sunday.

The theatre has been provided with air-conditioners a part of the measures to improve the functioning of the hospital following the death of several newborn babies last month. Twenty-two hospital staff members were imparted training in infection control on Saturday. A new room has been readied at the hospital to admit new cases.

A press release issued by the hospital today said the newly-opened control room would be handed over to the Hospital Superintendent.

It would start functioning as a hospital information centre (HIC) from May 14. It will be equipped with a public address system and a plasma television monitor connected to various closed circuit televisions to be installed at strategic locations within the hospital.

Once the network becomes operational, the HIC will be able to minimise overcrowding on the hospital premises, which has been identified as the major cause for nosocomial infection.
