dated May 14, 1957: Rajendra Prasad sworn in

Dr. Rajendra Prasad and Dr. S. Radhakrishnan were sworn in President and Vice-President for a second term on May 13. A 31-gun salute boomed as the Chief Justice of India, Mr. S.R. Das, administered the oath to Dr. Rajendra Prasad in the historic Central Hall of Parliament House. Immediately afterwards, the President administered the oath of office to Dr. Radhakrishnan. Among those who witnessed the ceremony were Prime Minister Nehru, his Cabinet colleagues, diplomats, MPs and representatives of the Services.
