CHENNAI: Two unidentified persons forcibly entered a residential flat on Anna Nagar 12th Main Road, murdered a woman aged about 55 years and decamped with valuables on Saturday. The police reckon that the murder would have been committed around 12.30 p.m. when the victim, whose name was given as Tamilselvi, was alone in her flat on the first floor of the building. Her husband Thangamani, a financial controller in the office of the Director General of Police, had gone to work in the morning. The couple have a son Arun who is abroad and a daughter Aarathy who too was away from home at the time of the incident. An investigating officer said preliminary enquiries with neighbours suggested that the assailants were in the age group of 20-25. According to information gathered by the police, when Tamilselvi opened the door, the strangers enquired about an address and pushed her inside. The duo closed the door from inside and murdered the woman. Within minutes, they left the scene. On being alerted, Anna Nagar police personnel visited the spot where the woman was lying in a pool of blood. A sniffer dog was brought to the scene of the crime. Fingerprint experts inspected the house. The body was sent to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. ' The daylight murder in the busy location shocked the neighbourhood. Such a gruesome act was unprecedented in the locality, where even a petty theft had not been heard of, said a resident of the same apartment. A senior police officer said special teams had been formed to investigate the case.
