BELLARY: The Hampi World Heritage Site Management Authority is awaiting approval for its draft plan for systematic development of Hampi. The master plan, which has been prepared in consultation with United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and known as land use plan, comprises three components - zonal regulations, building regulations and architectural guidelines. The plan will initially concentrate on zonal and building regulations.
Infrastructure
Based on the master plan, steps would be initiated to develop infrastructure and remove unauthorised or illegal structures that have come up at the world heritage site, Arvind Srivastav, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the authority, told The Hindu here on Sunday. He said that once the draft plan was approved, the authority would place it before the people of Hampi and seek their cooperation for the systematic development of the world heritage site. Meanwhile, the authority has prepared a documentary so that new alterations made to the buildings in Hampi could be detected. In addition, a survey of buildings has been taken up to find out if they have been built on encroached land near the monuments or on government land or have been constructed without approval from the authority. Besides, steps have been taken to regulate the movement of heavy vehicles in Hampi. Mr. Srivastav said infrastructure would be created to promote tourism. A tourist sub-plan was being prepared.
