Proposals worth Rs.74,961 cr. cleared

Investment proposals worth Rs.74,961 crore, for setting up 22,473 industrial units, were received during the last three years by the Single Window Cell of the Industries department, even as the Government had set a target of attracting projects worth Rs.15,000 crores during 2005-10.

Projects worth 10,027 crores-- 4,751 small scale units and 325 large and medium plants-- were already established since April 2004, providing employment to more than a lakh people. Meanwhile, a majority of the proposals for setting up 22,473 units were cleared and are in various stages of implementation.

Permissions sought

While proposals for Rs.9,753 crore were received in 2004-05, permissions were sought for projects worth Rs.22,312 crore in the next year. Up to February 2007, proposals worth Rs.29, 836 crore were received. Permissions for setting up 6,049 units with an outlay of Rs. 13,058 crore were submitted to the cell in 2002-03 and 2003-04.

According to a note from the Industries Commissioner, 325 large and medium industries were established in which Rs. 8,897 crore was invested and employment provided to 40,735 people. As many as 4,751 small-scale units with an outlay of Rs.1,130 crore were set up. These units provided employment to 66,450 persons.
