NEW DELHI: The Telugu Desam Party will stage a dharna here on Monday to highlight construction of projects on the Godavari by Maharashtra and to pressure the Central and Andhra Pradesh Governments to stop the same. Leading a delegation of MPs, MLAs, public representatives at the panchayat level, farmers and their associations, TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu will take part in a march up to Jantar Mantar, where a sit-in protest will be staged. The TDP has also sought appointments with the President and Prime Minister on Tuesday to put across its viewpoint. TDP Parliamentary Party leader K. Yerran Naidu told correspondents here that the party wanted to raise the voice of protest against "injustice meted out to the people of Andhra Pradesh, ineffectiveness of the State Government and the inaction of the Centre in this regard." He said despite several representations from Andhra Pradesh, the Centre was not able to direct Maharashtra to stop construction on the Babli Dam in violation of the Godavari award. He alleged that the Maharashtra Government was carrying on construction, which would result in choking the rights of the lower riparian State. "Eighteen lakh acres across 7 districts of the State will be starved of water if the project goes ahead. " Mr. Yerran Naidu said.
