There must be no victimisation, says Swamy

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy has urged Uttar Pradesh's new Chief Minister Mayawati to ensure that there was "no vindictiveness or victimisation" against her predecessor Mulayam Singh.

In a press release on Sunday, Dr. Swamy welcomed Ms. Mayawati's victory, saying that she was a "self-made person, who has come up by sheer hard work and grit." However, he also pointed out that Ms. Mayawati's electoral mandate in terms of votes polled for her Bahujan Samaj Party was only 3.8 per cent higher than the votes received by Mr. Mulayam's Samajwadi Party.
