Sheep, goats killed by lightning

Srikakulam: More than 50 sheep in the village Komanapalli and nearly 70 goats in Pasigangpeta, grazing in the fields, were killed when lightning struck them on Saturday evening. Special Correspondent

Rs. 20 lakh worth red sanders seized

ONGOLE: In a major haul, police recovered red sanders worth Rs. 20 lakhs near Giddalur in Prakasam district. Police intercepted two lorries carrying 223 pieces of red sanders being transported illegally at Pamulapalli village on Sunday. Nine persons were arrested in this connection.

Flights restored partially in Vizag

VISAKHAPATNAM: Vizag Airport was opened partially to traffic on Sunday even as efforts were on to remove the Embraer aircraft of Paramount Airlines, which got stuck at the end of the runway. Naval help was also being sought. Meanwhile, a naval spokesman contradicted the claim of Paramount Airlines that the flight overshot the runway due to mud on the airstrip. He said Boeing 737 of Indian landed normally a few minutes before the Paramount flight overshot the runway. Staff Reporter

Best railway station

KADAPA: Kadapa railway station received the best railway station award this year, Guntakal Divisional Railway Manager Manohar said on Sunday.

Besides Kadapa, Tirupati, Guntakal and Raichur stations were model stations in the division, he told newsmen here. Gooty, Renigunta, Pakala and Dhone stations were being modernised. Doubling works on Kadapa-Renigunta section would be completed this year. - Staff Reporter
