Two killed in `fake' encounter in Bihar, admits DIG

Patna: A mother and her daughter were killed in a ``fake'' encounter that took place at Ranjitpur village in Bihar's Sitamarhi town in early 2006, police said on Sunday.

DIG (Tirhut range) Gupteshwar Pandey, in his supervision report, admitted that following a complaint filed by the relatives of the deceased in a Sitamarhi he had personally inquired into the case and found that the encounter was a ``fake one''.

He said, on a tip-off a police team had gone to Ranjitpur village and had surrounded a house apprehending that some naxalites were hiding there.

As the door of the house opened, two Bihar Military Police personnel, part of the police team, opened fire as they suspected that the rebels were trying to flee, Mr. Pandey said, adding Parvati Devi and her daughter Sima Devi fell victim to the police bullets.- PTI
