BELLARY: Rakesh Vatash, Divisional Railway Manager, Hubli division of South Western Railway, inaugurated the railway siding at Oblapuram Mining Company on Sunday. He also flagged off the first rake comprising 58 wagons loaded with iron ore to JSW Steel, Salem. The new siding will facilitate transportation of about 3,500 tonnes of iron ore to the destination directly by train. Earlier, iron ore from the mines used to be dumped at loading points either at Hagari or at Bellary Cantonment. Hundreds of lorries had to be pressed into service for onward loading into the rakes. A 7.5-km track has been laid by the company from its mines to Oblapuram railway station in Andhra Pradesh. The track will fetch the Railways a freight revenue of around Rs. 26 lakh a rake. Two rakes would be loaded daily, said the suspended BJP MLC Janardhan Reddy who owns the company.
