NEW DELHI: A decomposed body of an unemployed man was found in his house at Mayur Vihar-Phase-I here on Sunday. The police are awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain the cause of death. According to the police, the incident came to light on Sunday morning when some neighbours noticed foul smell emanating from the house of 39-year-old Chandan Chakarvarty. His septuagenarian father told them that his son Chandan had been consuming alcohol in his room for the past few days. They went in to check and found his decomposed body lying on the floor. Subsequently they informed the police around 11-15 a.m. Enquiries revealed that Chandan quit the job of an accountant with a Lucknow company and began living with his father at his Mayur Vihar residence about two years ago. As he was unemployed, Chandan gradually began consuming liquor, leading to frequent quarrels with his wife. They again had a fight over the same issue about a week ago, following which his wife went to her parents' house along with their son. The police suspect that an upset Chandan hit the bottle with a vengeance. "His father said he had not eaten anything for the past few days. He was just consuming liquor," said a police officer, adding that the decomposed state of the body suggested that Chandan could have died over 24 hours ago. The police do not suspect any foul play, but are awaiting the post-mortem report for confirmation.
