Arrested for assaulting girl

NEW DELHI: A five-year-old girl was criminally assaulted allegedly by her neighbour at Nandnagri here on Sunday. While the accused has been arrested, the victim has been admitted to hospital.

According to the police, the incident took place in the afternoon when the girl went to the house of 20-year-old Ravinder to deliver some household item. Ravinder allegedly overpowered her and criminally assaulted her. Hearing her screams, area residents caught Ravinder. He was handed over to the police.

Nepali held with charas

NEW DELHI: A Nepali national has been arrested allegedly with 7 kg of charas valued at Rs. 20 lakh in the international market at the Shivaji Stadium bus terminal here.

Accused Naseem Ahmad Faruqui, a resident of Dang in Nepal, was arrested when he came to the bus terminal to deliver the consignment to someone on Friday. During interrogation, he purportedly disclosed that he used to smuggle in charas from Nepal through the Indo-Nepal border along Uttar Pradesh. He had earlier supplied the stuff in huge quantities in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, the police said.

Alleged robbers arrested

NEW DELHI: Two alleged robbers have been arrested at Krishna Nagar here. The police claim to have recovered a knife from their possession.

Acting on a tip-off that they would come to a park, the police laid a trap and arrested the duo. They were identified as Rafique and Sultan. During interrogation, they purportedly confessed to their involvement in several cases of robbery.

picking pocket

NEW DELHI: A rickshaw-puller and his accomplice have been arrested at Kashmere Gate here for allegedly picking the pocket of a truck driver.

According to the police, Mehender Singh, a resident of Sonipat, on Saturday hired a rickshaw from Naya Bazar to Inter-State Bus Terminus at Kashmere Gate. When he reached ISBT, he found Rs. 1,400 and some documents missing from his pocket. The matter was reported to the police and the investigations led to the arrest of rickshaw puller Rajpal and his accomplice Salim. The money and documents were allegedly recovered from their possession.

Workers demand security law

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Domestic Workers Union held a State-level consultation at Gandhi Peace Foundation here on Sunday demanding a comprehensive legislation on social security. The meet was organised as part of the ongoing "Campaign for Right to Life with Dignity".

Addressing the meet, union advisor Ramendra Kumar highlighted the plight of the marginalised workforce of the city. The meet demanded fixed wages, annual leave, and railway and bus pass to the workers among other things. Representatives from trade unions, federations and other civil society organisations attended the meet.
