11-year-old girl run over

BANGALORE: An 11-year-old girl was killed when a person accidentally stepped on the accelerator of a jeep instead of the brake pedal and ran over a sleeping girl in Singasandra on Saturday.

Krishnegowda, the driver of a company-owned jeep, had parked the vehicle on Friday on a bye-lane of a small locality where he stays. Zeena Begum, the victim, who was a resident of the locality, was sleeping near the jeep along with her family members.

On Saturday, Zeena was sleeping while the others were busy with their morning chores. Krishnegowda's neighbour, Swami, who has a habit of listening to the radio, took the keys of the vehicle and accidentally turned the engine on. As the jeep started to move, Swami stepped on the accelerator, instead of applying the brakes, and ran over Zeena. Zeena died on the spot, the police said.

Dies of injuries

In another incident, a six-year-old boy was killed after he was caught between a lorry and a retaining wall of a storm water drain near Bandepalya in Madiwala police station limits on Saturday.

According to the police, a group of children were playing near a stationary lorry. They climbed into the lorry and shifted the gear of vehicle to neutral position. As the lorry started to move the children jumped out.

The lorry moved down the slope towards a group of people standing near the storm water drain. Rajkumar, the victim, who was among the group, was caught between the wall and the lorry while he was trying to jump across the wall. Rajkumar was dragged along the face of the wall for a few metres before he died, the police said.

Three killed

Three persons were killed and a head constable was injured in as many incidents reported in the city and on the outskirts on Saturday and Sunday.

Geeta, 34, was killed after a lorry hit the motorcycle she was riding pillion in Channapatna on Sunday. According to the police, Geeta and her husband, Shivananda Kumar, residents of AMCO Layout, were on their way to Channapatna. The lorry hit the motorcycle near the Channapatna Inspection Bungalow. Geeta died on the spot. Shivananda Kumar was taken to a private hospital.

Venkataraju, 23, was killed after a lorry hit the motorcycle he was riding near a car showroom in Keshavanagar on Hosur Road on Saturday. His friend, Srinivas, who was riding a pillion, has been admitted to a nearby private hospital.

Vijaykumar, 35, driver of a lorry, was killed when the vehicle rammed a tree near Harohalli of Kanakapura taluk on Saturday. Three persons travelling in the lorry, who were injured, have been admitted to National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences.

Puttamaraiah, 50, a head constable of High Grounds police station, was injured when he was hit by a BMTC bus near Shivananda Circle on Sunday.
