BSNL drivers' plea

ERODE: The district conference of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited Drivers Association expressed concern over the delay in finalising the National Council Committee recommendations on pay revision, non-judicious fixation of pay scales, time bound promotion and revision of overtime allowance.

Western Zone secretary S. Siraj presided the conference held on Sunday. Circle secretary D. Venkatapathy condemned the use of private cabs `on contract' basis throughout the country. He also mentioned that the postings of drivers were not uniform. He said, "In Salem, all the department vehicles are operated by drivers appointed on contract basis".

The conference by a resolution said, "We should make the department utilise the vehicles and manpower more judiciously instead of engaging private cabs and casual drivers." Circle president R. Ramasamy spoke.
