District improves performance in Plus-Two examinations

33 schools secure cent per cent pass

ERODE: The district has put up an impressive pass percentage, bettering its performances in the Plus-Two examinations, the results of which were declared on Monday.

Announcing the results, Collector T. Udayachandran, along with Chief Education Officer P. Kuppusamy, said the pass percentage was 90.84, up by 6.67 points.

In the 2006 higher secondary results, the district had 84.17 per cent, and in 2005, it posted 85.57 per cent.

In Erode district too, girls outshined the boys in performance. Of the 10,842 girls who appeared for the exam, 10,024 emerged successful, posting 92.46 per cent. And, of the 9,956 boys, 8,869 cleared the exam, giving 89.08 per cent.

Likewise, the number of schools that have improved their performances has also increased. According to Mr. Kuppusamy, 57 Government-run schools have enhanced their pass percentage as against 24 matriculation schools. In all, 119 schools have improved their performances.

The number of schools that have secured cent per cent pass is 33, and this comprises 26 Government-run schools and a Government school.

In the last academic year, this number was 18. And, the number of schools that have secured less than 50 per cent pass is one. Last year the figure was four.

Similarly, the number of centum scorers has also increased. This year 2,497 students have scored in various subjects as against the 2,197 in last year.

The maximum number of centum - 875 - is in vocational accountancy. This year again, 105 students have scored 200/200 in mathematics. Last year, it was 40.

First three ranks

The first three ranks in the district this year has gone to the Bharathi Vidya Bhavan Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Thindal. P. Aravind secured 1,177 out of 1,200 to stand first in the district. V.K. Sivabalan followed him with 1,174. G. Kannan Vikas and C. T. Kumar Palaniappan shared the honours for the third rank with 1,172.

Among the Government school students, J. Yamuna of Government Higher Secondary School, Sivagiri, secured 1,148. B. Prabhakaran of Government Higher Secondary School, Bhavani, took the second spot with 1,141. He shared the second place with G. Karthikeyan of Government Higher Secondary School, Anthiyur.

The third place went to D. Thenmozhe of Government Higher Secondary School, Sivagiri, who secured 1,137 marks. Mr. Udayachandran said Government teachers who helped students excel would be rewarded.
