FOR A DROPLET: A still from `Save,' a short film.
A short film made by a young schoolteacher from Koothuparamba will be screened at an international film festival next September. `Save,' a five-minute film directed by T. Deepesh, has been selected for Le Carrousel international du film de Rimousk, a children's film festival held annually in Quebec, Canada.
Water rights
The film, made at a budget of Rs.13,000, shows a young girl's failed attempt to draw water from a well; she doesn't realise that water has become private property. "Water no longer belongs to us, but to multinational companies - that's what I am trying to convey through my film," explains Deepesh, who teaches drawing at CHMHS, Killenkery, Iritty. This is the third short film made by this graduate from Government Fine Arts College, Thiruvananthapuram. The highlights of `Save' are fine camera work by Jaleel Badhusha and fine graphics by Renjith. Pragathi Priya plays the lone character. "I haven't learned film-making academically, nor have I worked under any director," says the 29-year-old teacher. "I make films because it's my passion. Besides the festivals, I am planning to show it in different parts of the State, and maybe also on some television channel."
